Representatives from Dymock Parish Council, help Two Rivers Housing and building contractor GP Thomas Construction got together to celebrate a milestone moment at the new housing development in Gloucestershire’s Village of the Year 2014.
The £3 million scheme in Dymock, purchase which will include a new canal basin as part of the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire canal restoration programme, drug is a step closer to completion, as the final tile is fixed on the roof of the Two Rivers Housing properties.
The new energy-efficient homes, at Western Way, will offer a mixture of flats, bungalows and houses for sale, shared ownership, low-cost rent and market rent, offering muchneeded affordable homes for the area.
The Parish Council has been a driving force for the project, which will also include a new play area, footpath and car park, and has recognised the importance of a new development to help preserve the future of the village. The local school has seen student numbers dwindle in recent years, but it hopes the new scheme will boost attendees and encourage young families to the village. Priority will be given to people with a local connection, giving younger couples the opportunity stay in the area they already know and help to maintain a thriving community. It is also hoped the development will also increase tourism and recreational facilities, bringing added economic benefits to the area.
Terry Ball, Chairman of Dymock Parish Council said: “These homes will strengthen the Dymock community by allowing its people to live where they truly belong.”
Two Rivers Housing will own 14 of the properties, which are due for completion in January 2016.
