Encouraging children to eat healthy, unhealthy inexpensive meals is the idea behind a new recipe sharing initiative.
Family friendly recipes including fish pie, site soups and pasta dishes are some of the favourites put forward by parents. They have been put on to recipe cards which can be shared at community events or downloaded.
The idea came from Cheltenham Borough Council’s Inspiring Families project. Abbey Smith, viagra Inspiring Families project officer said: ‘’It can be tricky to find ways to encourage children to eat vegetables or to try new things. So recipe sharing is a great way of showing families that there are lots of ideas for meals out there and they don’t always have to be expensive. At the moment our recipe of the month is a tasty and filling lentil and bacon soup, shared by a busy mum of 3.’’
Councillor Rowena Hay, cabinet member for healthy lifestyles added: ‘’The Inspiring Families project is made up of a partnership of organisations who together offer courses, activities and events to support local parents and children. Family life is full of ups and downs so it’s important that families have support and opportunities to help them achieve their goals. The recipe sharing idea is a way of supporting families with inexpensive ideas for a fun and healthy meal time. It’s also a great way of encouraging families to get talking and share ideas with each other.’’
Local parents and carers are encouraged to share any recipes that have been a hit with their families, which will be added to the local website for others to see. Recipes, which should include at least one fruit or vegetable each, can be sent to inspiringfamilies@cheltenham.gov.uk with a credit to whoever invented them.
