A huge display of Christmas lights has once again been installed at a charitable and festive spirited family’s home in South Cerney in memory of much-loved wife, mother and grandmother, Sandra Wearing.

This is the eighth time that Kelvin Wearing, with the help of his daughter Debbie and family, have transformed their home into a glittering spectacle of goodwill with hundreds of lights and ornaments, to raise funds for Sue Ryder’s Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham which cared for Sandra in her final days.

The display on Beverstone Road in South Cerney is already open for the community enjoy from 4.30pm to 7.30pm every day until New Year’s Day.

Visitors to the house will be blown away by the festive scene, which includes: 57 festive silhouettes, 11 inflatables, seven sets of twinkly lights, eight sets of icicle lights, a kaleidoscope projecting Christmas patterns, a parachuting Santa and 32 3D items including a train, 3D snowman, Father Christmas, an elf, a sledging snowman and a festive Dachshund!

New items for this year include a family of wooden reindeer made by Kelvin, additions to their nativity scene, a second see-saw and more acrylic figures, now totalling 43. Overall, the family’s fundraising efforts have raised £4,476.51 for the charity, helping to fill people’s final days with love.

Kelvin commented, “We are so proud that we have created something that not only raises everyone’s spirits and gets them in the festive mood, but raises funds for Sue Ryder’s Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham too. The staff there did such a wonderful job looking after Sandra in her final days. She was so fond of the lights at Christmas –  it feels like the perfect way to continue honouring her memory.”

Debbie added, “We went on two shopping trips as a family this year to make sure that this display was bigger and better than ever! It is wonderful seeing how many people come and visit the house during the festive season, and how excited so many people are for when the lights turn on! It takes a lot of planning, and with every year that we add more to the display there is more to do, but it is always so worth the effort.”

There is a collection box on the house gate for visitors to donate to, and all of the funds will be going directly to the charity.

Alysia Cameron-Price, Community Fundraising Manager for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, said: “At Sue Ryder our care teams do all they can to make room for the things that matter to our patients – like spending time with loved ones and sharing memories to fill their final days with love. It’s truly fitting that the Wearing family are raising vital funds so someone can experience comfort and joy at the end of their life, while creating special memories for local families this Christmas too. Thank you to them all for their ongoing support.”

Everyone is welcome to visit the display on Beverstone Road in South Cerney, which is on until 1st January 2021 between 4.30pm and 7.30pm, where donations to the hospice will be gratefully received.
