A series of festive events has been announced by local medical charity Cobalt, offering the community plenty of ways to celebrate Christmas while supporting vital healthcare services.
The countdown begins on Thursday 27 November with Cobalt’s Christmas Mistletoe Fair at its Linton House headquarters. Visitors can browse seasonal stalls, pick up gift ideas and even meet real reindeer, Dancer and Blitzen. The fair runs from 5pm to 7pm, with all proceeds funding the charity’s medical imaging and research work. Organisers have asked visitors to be aware that there is no on-site parking.
On Sunday 7 December, families, runners and festive fancy-dress enthusiasts are encouraged to take part in the charity’s first Reindeer Run for Cobalt. Every participant will receive a pair of antlers and a commemorative Cobalt mug, with early-bird entry now open. The charity says it’s the perfect way to stay active and support a good cause in the run-up to Christmas.
Cobalt has also been selected to take part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s largest online match-funding campaign. From midday on 2 December to midday on 9 December, every donation to Cobalt’s dementia trials will be doubled — helping the charity reach its £37,000 target. The initiative is supported by The Julia Rausing Trust as Cobalt’s Big Give Champion.
And once Christmas Day has passed, Cobalt will continue the season of giving with The Big Sort. From 29 December to 15 January 2026, residents are encouraged to donate their used Christmas cards at the giant collection bins at Thirlestaine Breast Clinic. Volunteers will recycle and transform the cards into new 2026 Christmas and greetings cards to be sold for charity.
Cobalt said it hopes the community will join in the fun while helping fund groundbreaking local medical services.
