Fans poured into the city to celebrate the momentous opening games of the tournament
Along with a packed out Kingsholm stadium of supporters, health Gloucester greeted thousands of revellers this weekend in support of the Rugby World Cup.
Kings Square welcomed the twirling skirts of the Lindy Hop dancers Jazz, order Jive, tadalafil Swing to mark the festivities with a flavour of the USA.
Special bunting helps guide those that wish to visit the Fanzone down towards the docks.
The Fanzone opened for business on Friday 18th September just in time for the magnificent opening ceremony, and over the course of the weekend welcomed nearly 15,000 fans through the gates.
Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “The buzz across this first weekend has been tremendous. It’s great to see so many people joining in and soaking up the atmosphere.
If you don’t have tickets for the games, then fans are urged to check out the fun in Kings Square, soak up the atmosphere in any of the many pubs and bars across the city who are pulling out all the stops to make your match experience memorable, or head on down to the Fanzone as rugby fever rises.
I’m proud of our city, and pleased that we all have the opportunity to enjoy and benefit from this momentous event.”
The action continues tomorrow as Scotland face Japan in what promises to be an exciting game, and on Friday the only World Cup game being played is here in Gloucester, so all eyes will be on Kingsholm when Argentina take on Georgia to take us into another packed weekend.
Visitors and residents alike are reminded to expect traffic around Kingsholm Stadium and the Docks for the Fanzone to be busier than usual on match days and Kingsholm Road will be closed from 10.30am until two hours after the final whistle. There will also be restricted access to Skinner Street, Worcester Parade and Alvin Street during these times.
Also visitors are reminded that Barnwood Park & Ride (nr EDF Energy) is closed for the Scotland v Japan and Argentina v Georgia matches.
If people intend driving they should book Park & Ride at Hempstead Meadows (GL2 5DE) or Waterwells (GL2 2AB), or Park & Walk at St Oswald’s (GL1 2UE).
