Two Rivers Housing has installed 10 defibrillators around the Forest of Dean, pharm making sure that the life-saving equipment will be close at hand if needed in an emergency.
After obtaining a defibrillator at its head office in Newent, medicine the not-for-profit organisation has now invested in 10 more of the apparatus located in its schemes for older or more vulnerable tenants, recipe but available as a community resource.
The defibrillators are outside the HomePlus buildings in Cinderford, Coleford, Newent, Staunton, Bream, Yorkley and Sedbury are clearly marked and accessible 24 hours a day and available to the whole of the community. A code to get access into the weatherproof box will be made available when someone rings the emergency services.
Working alongside the South West Ambulance Service and the Community HeartBeat Trust, free training sessions are available to all Two Rivers tenants and members of the public living around the schemes who would like to know how to use a defibrillator.
Andrew Tootell, Health, Safety and Environmental Co-ordinator at Two Rivers Housing said: “Having a defibrillator close by can mean the difference between life and death. With 10 more situated around the Forest of Dean, this should provide some reassurance to people living in those areas. We hope that people attend the training to learn how invaluable these pieces of equipment are.”
A defibrillator can be used without training, as instructions are provided to the user when operated, however these sessions will allow people to find out when a defibrillator is required and what to expect if they are ever faced with a situation when they need to use one.
