People will have even more reasons to visit Gloucester library from today when free Wi-Fi will be available for the first time.
Library users will now be able to bring their phone, check laptop or tablet when they visit the Brunswick Road building and use the Wi-Fi to access emails, prescription the internet and to help them with their research or studies.
The free Wi-Fi access will help people access county council and library services digitally, including online forms and requests for services, download eBooks and eAudiobooks and carry out job searches.
The move has been funded by developer contributions. Wi-Fi is also available at Cheltenham and Cirencester libraries.
Cllr Andrew Gravells, cabinet member responsible for libraries at Gloucestershire County Council said: “This is great news for all Gloucester library users. A lot of people have requested free Wi-Fi at the library so I’m delighted that we are able to offer this useful service.
“I hope regular users will be pleased and will find further ways to use their local library and that this encourages people who haven’t been to Gloucester library before to visit and see everything it has to offer.”
