Nine organisations in the Forest of Dean have been awarded a share of over £43k in funding for projects to support the local economy.
In December 2014, drugs businesses and organisations from all sectors, across the district were invited to apply for a share of an Economic Growth Development Fund of £99k, made available by the District Council’s Cabinet.
The successful applicants were assessed against strict criteria, in which they were asked to demonstrate that their projects were sustainable, promoted economic growth and had long term viability for the benefit of the district. In addition the applicants also had to provide evidence of match funding amounting to at least 50% of the project’s total cost.
The nine successful applicants are as follows:
- Cycling Guides
- The Resilience Centre
- Coleford Music Festival
- Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism Association
- Hillside Brewery
- Puzzlewood
- Harts Barn Cookery School
- Dean Forest Railway
- Pedalabikeaway
Cllr Patrick Molyneux, Leader of the District Council said: “We are pleased to announce the names of the nine successful local businesses and organisations, which will receive this much needed funding to support their excellent projects.
“All these applicants have demonstrated strong evidence of sustainability and their projects combined represent an investment in excess of £135k to the local economy.
“With just under half of the overall funding now allocated in the first round, we hope a second round of funding will be available in late spring early summer for additional applications.
“Prior to opening, the second round of funding will be announced on the ‘Business News and Events’ page found in the
Business section of the District Council’s website www.fdean.gov.uk Town and Parish Councils will also be notified and a press release will be issued to the local media.”
