A training course supporting unpaid dementia carers in Gloucestershire has received a £2,000 funding boost to help more people access practical care skills.
Gloucestershire Older Persons Association has been awarded the funding to help deliver training for unpaid dementia carers.
The funding comes from Gloucestershire County Council’s £1.1 million Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund and was allocated by Churchdown councillor Stewart Dove.
The Carers Course offers practical first aid and manual handling training, helping people care for loved ones safely at home.
Sessions are delivered by an emergency responder, occupational therapist and dementia trainer.
The grant will help cover specialist trainers’ fees and support carers who may struggle with course or transport costs.
The wider fund allows each of Gloucestershire’s 55 county councillors to allocate up to £20,000 to local community projects.
