traffic cone in roadWork is set to begin on Monday on a major project to upgrade more than 1,700 metres (5,577ft) of gas pipes in Minchinhampton.

Wales & West Utilities will spend over four months carrying out the improvements in the Gloucestershire town, with traffic management measures in place when required.

As part of the project, Dr Brown’s Road will be closed to traffic from 12 January until 20 February. Additional temporary traffic controls may be introduced at various stages of the work to ensure safety for both the public and engineers.

The gas upgrade scheme is scheduled to start on 5 January and is expected to be completed by the end of May.

Mick Gallavin, who is managing the project for Wales & West Utilities, said the work was essential despite the disruption it may cause.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area and to ensure the gas network is fit for the future,” he said.

The company has been working closely with Gloucestershire County Council to plan the scheme and coordinate traffic management arrangements.
