Gloucester City Council has commissioned leading urban design firm Prior + Partners to produce a major new City Centre Masterplan that will guide the development of the city for the next two decades.
Funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the masterplan aims to reimagine the heart of Gloucester, setting out a long-term vision for a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable city centre. The council said the work will go far beyond physical redevelopment, focusing on creating a place that “inspires, connects and thrives” for residents, businesses and visitors.
The plan will include an assessment of Gloucester’s current needs, comparisons with similar cities, a future design vision and a delivery plan to make it achievable. Community involvement will play a central role, with public engagement opportunities to be announced in the coming months.
Cllr Jeremy Hilton, Leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “This masterplan is about creating a thriving city centre for the 21st century and well beyond. We’ll be looking at the city as a whole, including lower Eastgate Street and Northgate Street, which we realise need particular attention.”
The completed masterplan is expected to be published in the new year.
