Gloucester’s MP has called for two unitary authorities to be created as part of proposals for devolution.
Labour MP Alex McIntyre has signed a joint letter alongside Labour’s Matt Bishop, Simon Opher, and the Liberal Democrat’s Max Wilkinson and Roz Savage.
They are proposing two unitary authorities for Gloucestershire as part of the Government’s devolution plans.
Mr McIntyre said: “There’s been a huge amount of devolution discussion going on over the last few weeks, including amongst MPs who are keen to secure the best possible outcome for our county.”
The MPs have suggested West Gloucestershire which would combine the Forest of Dean, Gloucester, and Stroud along the River Severn.
East Gloucestershire would combine Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, and the Cotswolds.
The letter has been sent to Jim McMahon, Minister of State (Housing, Communities and Local Government).
