The famous cheese-rolling event will take place in Brockworth tomorrow despite safety concerns.

Emergency services and local councilors met last week to discuss the popular event at Coopers Hill.

Chief Superintendent Arman Mathieson, of Gloucestershire Police, is the gold commander for the upcoming cheese rolling event and says the event is “unsafe” for both spectators and participants.

“If a major incident were to occur, if people were to slip at the top of the hill and fall, we would have a crush, we would have multiple casualties and we would have a requirement to respond,” Mr Mathieson told the BBC.

The wacky tradition pulls in crowds of several thousand each year.

Local residents who organise the event have confirmed it will go-ahead on Bank Holiday Monday.

The first race will get underway at midday.

A series of road closures will be in place.
