A location in Gloucestershire has landed in first place on a new list of the UK’s best market towns to visit in spring.
HomeToGo, the marketplace with the world’s largest selection of holiday rentals, has released a list of the 15 top market towns in the UK to visit this spring, aiming to provide spend-savvy travellers with plenty of fresh inspiration for scenic places to stay ahead of the bank holiday season. The ranking pinpoints locations that are both picturesque and purse-friendly, featuring only market towns situated within a one-hour walk of a National Park, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or Heritage Coast, and in which holiday accommodation prices for spring 2023 are lower than the UK median of £160.17 per night. Destinations are further ranked according to:
-
Affordability – looking at the exact median nightly price per person for holiday accommodation in the area, as well as the number of free things to do.
-
Scenic Setting – taking into account each town’s precise proximity to a National Park, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or Heritage Coast.
-
Climate – factoring in average hours of sunshine and average maximum temperatures during spring for each destination.
Three market towns in Cornwall and two in Devon secured appearances in the final ranking. However, it was Gloucestershire which took the top spot as Coleford, located on the edge of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, climbed to first place.
