Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer Mark Preece will retire on 1 October 2026.
He is also Gloucestershire County Council’s Executive Director of Community Safety.
Mark joined the service in 2019 as Assistant Chief Fire Officer and became Chief Fire Officer in 2022.
His fire service career began in 1991 with Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
Gloucestershire County Council says he has led the service through significant change, including investment in new fire appliances, increased workforce capacity and improvements following inspection and cultural review findings.
Councillor Paul Hodgkinson thanked him for his leadership and said temporary arrangements will be considered ahead of recruitment for a successor.
