A pupil from Leonard Stanley Primary School has won a top national award for promoting gas safety.
Fern scooped the Key Stage 2 regional prize in the ‘Get Creative, Be Safe’ competition, earning £450 for herself and £900 for her school.
The contest, run by UK gas networks including Wales & West Utilities, encourages children to highlight the dangers of carbon monoxide.
Her winning poster aimed to raise awareness of the invisible and odourless gas, often referred to as the “silent killer”.
Fern said she hopes her design will help people understand the risks and stay safe.
Teachers at the school praised her creativity and commitment, saying her work shows how young people can make a positive impact beyond the classroom.
Officials say campaigns like this are vital in spreading awareness, with simple steps like installing alarms and maintaining appliances helping to prevent serious harm.
