The Government has confirmed plans to create a single unitary council for Gloucestershire.
It will replace the existing county, city, district and borough councils on 1 April 2028.
The decision affects Gloucestershire County Council, Gloucester City Council, Cheltenham Borough Council, Cotswold District Council, Forest of Dean District Council, Stroud District Council and Tewkesbury Borough Council.
The Government says a single council best meets the criteria for economic growth, housing, joined-up public services and community empowerment.
Councils say services will continue as normal for now, with residents advised to access them in the usual way.
Elections to a shadow authority are expected on 6 May 2027, ahead of the new council formally taking over in 2028.
