Gloucestershire police say they have good plans in place for the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford this week given recent international developments.
Constabulary chiefs gave an update this week about the world renowned military aviation show which welcomes between 150,000 and 200,000 people each year.
Many of the world’s militaries take part and showcase some of their impressive aircraft.
This year’s show theme is Eyes in the Skies, celebrating aircraft used for intelligence, surveillance, maritime patrol, search and rescue, surveying and reconnaissance on Friday, July 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 29 of July.
Deputy Chief Constable Katy Barrow-Grint referenced RIAT at the police and crime panel at Shire Hall on July 11.
Other major events which require a strong police presence include Cheltenham Races, the Cheese Rolling at Cooper’s Hill or Gloucester Rugby matches.
“We have good plans in place [for RIAT], she said. “It is an internationally significant event with over 60,000 individuals coming in each day.
“Many of the world’s militaries [are there]. Given the international events recently you will understand why we need to be there to give that policing presence.
“We are all ready and looking forward to some nice weather next weekend.”
A spokesperson for RIAT thanked the different organisations they work with to ensure the event is as safe as possible. Organisers are really looking forward to welcoming visitors to RAF Fairford again this year.
“The safety of our visitors is of paramount importance to us here at the Royal International Air Tattoo,” they said.
“In the lead up to the event we work with a variety of different organisations to ensure our event is as safe as possible and we’d like to thank them for their continued efforts and co-operation.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming all of our visitors to RAF Fairford for what looks set to be another incredible show.”
