A main road into Cheltenham Town Centre is going to be closed for four weeks from Monday.
Wales & West Utilities is to carry out essential work to upgrade the gas network in the Lansdown Road area.
It will take place for four weeks between 22 February – 19 March and will keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses so local people are kept safe and warm for generations to come.
In planning the work, the gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Gloucestershire County Council and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place throughout. This will include a road closure on Lansdown Road, from the junction of Queens Road and Andover Road to the junction of Montpellier Walk and Montpellier Terrace. A diversion route will be clearly signposted and access for residents will be maintained.
Wales & West Utilities Mick Gallavin is project managing this work and said: “We know that working on roads like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll be working as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure the work is completed in a timely fashion, while keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.
“Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a 2m distance if passing our work site.
“To power a green recovery from coronavirus, we’ll be working hard to keep the gas flowing safely today and to prepare the gas network to transport green gases, like biomethane and hydrogen, so it can play its part delivering green, sustainable energy in the future.”
