The long-vacant Chambers pub in Gloucester’s Kings Square is set for a major revival under plans from hospitality group Loungers Ltd, which intends to reopen the venue as Coro Lounge — a family-friendly café bar discouraging late-night “vertical drinking”.

Loungers has submitted proposals to Gloucester City Council to transform the 5,000 sq ft site, closed since the Covid-19 pandemic, into a relaxed, food-led venue expected to open in spring or summer 2026.

Planning documents describe Coro Lounge as an “all-day café bar” designed to create an “active frontage” that reconnects the site with the rest of Kings Square and Kings Walk.

Loungers says it will prioritise local suppliers and staff, supporting nearby retail businesses through increased footfall. The company already operates Portivo Lounge at Gloucester Quays and two sites in Cheltenham.
