A brand new surface will be laid on one of Coleford’s main roads next month.

The improvement work will see 700 tonnes of new material put down over a length of 1.4km along Newland Street.

Highway crews will be on site from Thursday 9th October from 7:30am until 5pm, there including Sundays, see to get the work done as quickly as possible. The new surface will be completed by Monday 20th October.

During this time it will be necessary to close the road from the town centre to the junction near Whitecliff Quarry. Pedestrian access will be maintained and a small diversion for vehicles will be in place via Milkwall and Clearwell.

As part of the improvement, two speed humps will be removed and replaced with speed cushions. This change will assist emergency vehicles and improve highway drainage in the area.

Councillor Vernon Smith, cabinet member for Highways said, “This is part of our road repair plans for 2014 which we continue to carry out across the county, and I’m sure everyone will be pleased with the final result in Coleford.”

Local county councillor Paul McMahon said, “Local people have been looking forward this new surface for Newland Street. Road crews will be working on Sundays to make sure the job is completed quickly so we’ll all be driving on a safer and smoother road soon.”
