A noisy manhole cover in Gloucester “is making residents’ lives a misery” amid calls for it to be fixed.
The manhole cover in Barton Street, at the junction where Hopewell Street meets Derby Road, clanks every time a vehicle passes over it.
City Councillor Usman Bhaimia (LD, Barton and Tredworth) has been calling on Severn Trent to solve the problem which has been going on for months.
“The noisy manhole cover is making life miserable for residents. They are having sleepless nights due to it clanking every time a car passes over it.
“This is upsetting for the children elderly disabled and people going to work. This has been going on for months.
“This is causing sleepless nights and misery and must be sorted. There is a constant banging going on all the time.”
A Severn Trent spokesperson said they are aware of the issue and are in the process of scheduling works to replace the cover.
“We understand that the loose manhole cover must be a nuisance to residents in the Hopewell Street and Derby Road area and we are sorry it has taken so long to fix.
“We have carried out investigations and are in the process of scheduling works to replace the cover and we will get this done as quickly as possible.”
