Stroud District Council’s political group leaders have thanked everyone who have gone above and beyond to help the district through the Coronavirus pandemic, as the first anniversary approaches.

And they are inviting you to nominate your Stroud District Heroes who have made the difference during the past year.

As the nation prepares to mark the first anniversary with a national day of reflection on Tuesday, March 23, Stroud District Council leader, Councillor Doina Cornell said: “The past year has been like no other and people have stepped up to help each other get through it.  Public sector workers continue to work hard behind the scenes to protect our communities, charities and community groups have risen to the challenge, and businesses have found innovative ways to meet peoples’ essential needs.

“We are incredibly grateful for everyone’s efforts and we know there is much more work to be done.”

If you want to nominate an individual, a community group, an organisation, or a business that has been making the difference to your life during the pandemic you can do so on the council’s social media accounts using the hash tag #strouddistrictheroes.

Charity Marie Curie is staging a National Day of Reflection on Tuesday 23 March, when those who have died in the pandemic will be remembered. There will be a minute’s silence at noon, and flags will be lowered to half mast on public buildings.

Green group leader, Councillor Martin Whiteside said: “We are also thinking of all those lives which have been lost and the loved ones they leave behind. The effects of the pandemic will be felt for many years to come.

“I am proud that we have been able to support brilliant charities, community groups and social enterprises with funding and support in kind to make sure that everyone gets what they need.”
