The Oakwood Hotel, a 55-bedroom Georgian manor on Tewkesbury Road near Gloucester, has been sold to Kang Hotels.

Set in three acres of land, the Grade II-listed building also features a refurbished bar and large restaurant. The sale was prompted by the outgoing owner’s decision to retire and emigrate.

They said: “It was with a heavy heart that I sold the Oakwood Hotel, however due to semi-retirement and emigration I have decided to reduce the size of my UK business assets. The new owners are looking to complete my vision and have some great ideas. I wish them well.”

Kang Hotels, which is expanding its portfolio across the UK, said it plans to invest in the property through a refurbishment programme and an enhanced food and drink offer.

Harpreet Saluja from Kang Hotels said: “We are super excited to have acquired the Oakwood Hotel, as we see great potential to further develop it and present it in its finest form to our guests.”

Sam Roberts, Senior Agent at Christie & Co, described the sale as highly competitive, with strong interest soon after the hotel was placed on the market.

The hotel, formerly a Premier Inn, was marketed at offers over £2 million, though the final sale price has not been disclosed.
