OnionEd with the Cheeky Girls

Newent Onion Fayre’s mascot OnionEd had a wild couple of days away this weekend at Tewkesbury-based music festival, hospital Lakefest.

He caught the attention of many of the weekend revellers, buy cialis but when he caught the attention of pop duo – the Cheeky Girls, salve there was no escape.  The Romanian-born sisters, who had a number of top 10 hits in the early 2000’s, got to know their onions by meeting OnionEd – but, in reference to their number 2 hit – did he touch their bums?

He was a huge hit backstage, and as well as making good friends with Hayseed Dixie, he was also glad to give his chums Nizlopi a huge hug.  Along with chart-toppers, The Beat and 3 Daft Monkey’s, Nizlopi will be playing at Onionfest – the after party.  A one-off festival which will be taking place after this year’s Onion Fayre to celebrate 20 years of the re-established event on Saturday 12 September.

The after party is taking place around Newent’s lake, with the stage coming out over the water.  Along with live music and fairground rides, there will also be a laser light show display by the same organisation which has provided a sky show at Gloucester docks, lighting for celebrity tours, such as Kylie and has lit up many other famous landmarks across the country.

Peter Pain, Chairman said: “We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we have received this year and Onionfest is definitely going to be a spectacular event!  It’s such a unique venue and as it’s a one-off, there’s been a lot of interest in the festival.”

OnionEd has met many famous faces in the past, including Chris Evans, Alex Jones and Sea Sick Steve – but has the Cheeky Girls topped the lot?

Newent Onion Fayre, Gloucestershire’s largest one day event is taking place on Saturday 12 September and will see live music from The Roving Crows, the Ultimate Beatles, Woo Town Hillbillies and Sons of Navarone.  The day will also see a food festival, over 140 stalls lining the street, a dog show, cookery demonstrations, an onion show and the world famous onion eating competition.

Newent Onion Fayre started nearly 800 years ago and is a community event, organised by a small group of volunteers.  Along with giving local organisations the opportunity to showcase their business and the town, proceeds from the event are gifted back to the community.
