The courts at Oxstalls Sports Park have now reopened for the county’s tennis club.
Oxstalls and GL1 leisure centre closed suddenly at the end of September after Aspire Sports and Cultural Trust decided not to extend its contract with Gloucester City Council.
Leisure provision in the city was thrown into disarray by the closure but the authority has since been working on a phased approach to reopening all the facilities.
Last week they agreed to set aside £260,000 to appoint an interim leisure provider to run the services while they appoint a long term contractor.
And the council’s latest progress in reopening the sites includes allowing Gloucestershire Lawn Tennis Association back in at Oxstalls.
Culture and leisure cabinet member Andy Lewis (C, Quedgeley Severn Vale) said he is delighted that the courts have been reopened.
“We are working tirelessly to offer what facilities we can until a new provider can be found. I’m delighted that we have reopened the tennis courts at Oxstalls for Gloucestershire Lawn Tennis Association.
“We understand how important these facilities are for the club and I am pleased that they can now use the courts once again.”
Speaking at last week’s extraordinary council meeting, Cllr Lewis also said he hoped to have an interim provider appointed by the end of this month.
He has previously promised that the swimming pools at GL1 will be reopened for lessons, school usage and the wider public by January 1, 2024.
