Plans are in place to keep the city moving during the Tournament.
Thousands of people are expected to visit the city during Rugby World Cup 2015, drug the third largest sporting event in the world.
The majority of transport services in the city won’t be affected and will operate as normal. However public transport, roads around Kingsholm and the Docks for the Fanzone are expected to be busier than usual.
Plans have been made by transport providers, police, city and county councils to keep the city moving during the Tournament including putting in some road closures and putting on extra public transport.
Kingsholm Road will be closed on match days, four hours before kick-off, whilst the teams are playing and for two hours after the final whistle, with restricted access to Skinner Street, Worcester Parade and Alvin Street. In addition, Llanthony Road will be closed on the days the Fanzone is open.
Cllr Paul James, Leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “Gloucester will be a fantastic place to be during Rugby World Cup 2015. By working together we will make sure that travel is as easy as possible for those living and working in the city, as well as those visiting whether they are watching a game at Kingsholm, or absorbing the atmosphere elsewhere in the city.
“We have worked with transport providers to ensure there are extra buses and trains running and worked with England Rugby 2015 on ensuring the Spectator Journey Planner and travel information for the city is accurate and we encourage fans to make plans now.”
Spectators will be directed to a dedicated Journey Planner which will aid them in planning their journey to Gloucester and inform them of the best routes.
Ticket holders are being encouraged to start planning their travel now via the Spectator Journey Planner. This user-friendly journey planner informs fans of additional travel options in place to assist them on their journeys during the Tournament. Available at www.rugbyworldcup.com/journeyplanner, it also provides links to the transport providers so that fans can book tickets directly.
There is no parking at the majority of match venues (except for those with booked Blue Badge spaces), see the online map of car parks around Gloucester.
To reduce congestion around the rugby stadium, please use the city’s park and ride schemes and walking routes across the city.
There will be Park & Ride or Park & Walk services in place (Park and Walk must be booked in advance)
Shaun Roberts, Operations Manager from Gloucester Rugby, said: “We have worked extensively with England Rugby 2015, local authorities and transport providers to ensure that spectators can get to Kingsholm as quickly and as efficiently as possible, whilst ensuring there will be minimum disruption felt by local residents.
“We hope that the transport plans put in place by all stakeholders will help enhance visitors experiences of Rugby World Cup 2015 at Kingsholm and help develop Gloucester’s reputation as a place to visit going forward”
Managing Director of England Rugby 2015, Steve Brown, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming fans to Rugby World Cup 2015. We want fans to enjoy every element of their Tournament experience which is why we have worked hard to create a detailed Spectator Journey Planner to help people get to and from match venues.
We expect higher demand across numerous transport networks in each city, and we encourage fans to start planning their journeys now, using the Spectator Journey Planner.”
