Shivers me timbers! Pirates are set to invade Gloucester Waterways Museum for a fun-packed week of swashbuckling fun.

On “Wicked Wednesday,” 27 August, there will be a fancy dress competition at 12 noon to win a free 45-minute canal cruise ticket for a family of four for youngsters prepared to dress up as their favourite pirate.
Throughout the week artistic mini-pirates can make collage parrots, mini treasure chests, pirate masks and eye patches.
There will be drop-in workshops to learn how to talk like a pirate and a pirate trail around the museum will lead younger visitors to discover chocolate pieces of eight!
A mini-pirate galleon full of water will help pre-schoolers get involved in the action and volunteers in costume will be enlisting new crew members to join their gang!
The museum’s pleasure boat Queen Boadicea II will be flying the Jolly Roger flag throughout the week and will be decked out as a pirate galleon for its regular canal cruises at 12 noon, 1pm and 2pm each day.
“Pirates capture the imagination of children who love nothing more than an opportunity to dress up and join in the fun,” said Canal & River Trust’s Museum Manager Doreen Davies.
“This is the first year we’ve transformed our pleasure boat into a pirate galleon and we’re expecting it to attract a lot of attention when it travels down the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal packed with pesky pirates!” added Doreen.
