Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted ram-raid burglary at a shop in Newent during the early hours of Monday morning.
Officers from Gloucestershire Police were called to the Co-op on Market Square at around 12.35am after reports that four masked men had forced entry to the premises.
Police say the group, all wearing dark clothing and balaclavas, used weapons to break into the shop before attempting to open an on-site cash machine using circular saws. Despite their efforts, no money was stolen from the ATM.
However, officers confirmed that the incident caused extensive damage to the store.
The suspects are believed to have fled the scene in a black car, and police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area around the time of the incident.
Investigating officers are also urging residents and motorists who have not yet contacted police, and who may have relevant CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage, to come forward.
