There is a continued police presence in the White City area of Gloucester as part of the investigation into a report that cars had deliberately driven into each other.
Officers were called with reports that at least two vehicles had been involved in the incident on Beaufort Road at around 2.15am yesterday (Thursday 2 July).
A call was also received which stated that what was believed to have been gunshot noises were heard during the incident.
While the cars had driven off by the time police arrived on the scene, a vehicle which was suspected to have been involved was later found and seized to allow a forensic examination to take place.
No injuries have been reported and there is currently no evidence a firearm was discharged however officers continue to keep an open mind as the investigation progresses.
Specialist officers have taken part in searches along Beaufort Road to help establish if any weapons were involved.
Superintendent James Glansfield said: “We are treating the report of a firearm being discharged seriously and at this time we do not have any evidence to corroborate this report.
“The Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out reassurance patrols in the area over the weekend and anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to speak to them.”
Officers are in the early stages of an investigation and are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened and hasn’t yet spoken to police.
They are also keen to hear from anyone who has CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage which they believe to be relevant.
