A small fire broke out on the eighth floor of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital this morning, prompting the temporary relocation of some patients as a safety precaution.
The incident occurred just before 8am on Ward 8A in the Tower Block but was quickly brought under control. Hospital officials confirmed that there is no ongoing risk to staff or patients.
No patients were harmed during the incident, though a number of staff members are being monitored for potential smoke inhalation. The affected ward has been closed to allow for cleaning and ventilation.
Relatives of those who were moved are being contacted directly, and the hospital has apologised for any disruption caused.
A spokesperson for the hospital praised the swift efforts of the fire service and hospital teams, including Gloucestershire Managed Services staff, for their prompt response to the situation.
As the Emergency Department continues to experience high demand, members of the public are being encouraged to contact NHS 111 for urgent care needs and to consider alternative services where appropriate.
