Foster carers, ampoule Malcolm and Karen from Stroud are being recognised for their dedication to young people in their care.
The couple were approved to foster by the county council in November 2014. They were quickly approached to look after two children who currently live with them and their daughter Amy.
To thank Malcolm and Karen for their continued support, store JRools Bistro in Stroud is treating them to a meal on Thursday 28th May.
The celebration coincides with this year’s national campaign Foster Care Fortnight (1st – 14th June) which will highlight the need for more foster carers.
The 2015 theme ‘Fostering: Make a Connection’ recognises the many people who foster and the positive impact they have on children’s lives.
As part of the awareness week the county council will be holding a drop in session on Saturday 6th June at King Street, Stroud town centre 9am – 3pm for people to come along and find out more about fostering.
Cllr Paul McLain, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Foster carers carry out an incredible role in our community looking after the county’s most vulnerable children and young people. Our foster carers tell us year after year how rewarding it is to be a foster carer. We really need more people like Malcolm and Karen coming forward to foster.
“I would encourage anyone who is interested in taking on this life-changing role to go along to the drop-in event and learn more.”
Steve Betts, Owner of JRools Bistro says, “We are delighted to offer a meal to Karen and Malcolm who have given a home to two youngsters most in need. We are opening a wine and tapas bar in July at the Bistro and will invite them back again.”
The county council accepts applications to foster from all sectors of society. There is no upper age limit to foster and people can be married, single, co-habiting, in a heterosexual or same sex relationship, a homeowner or renting a property.
All children are different, and to meet their needs, the county council is looking for a wide variety of people. However all applicants will need to be over 21 and have a spare room (or spare rooms for siblings) in their home.
The county council is particularly keen to hear from people looking to foster older children and teenagers.
