The Steepleton retirement community project in Tetbury is in the running to gain national recognition at the Housing Design Awards ceremony this month.
Judges have shortlisted 59 projects in total and will award prizes to 15 of the contenders during a special ceremony at the London School of Economics on the evening of 13 July, for sale attended by Brandon Lewis MP, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning.
The new community in Tetbury, which is a redevelopment of the site formerly occupied by Autonumis Ltd in Cirencester Road, will comprise 114 apartments housed in six separate buildings within five acres. The architects are Proctor and Matthews, the developer is Pegasus Life and the planning authority is Cotswold District Council.
Cllr Sue Jepson, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Housing, is understandably excited about the prospect of a big award for the planned development:
“You only have to look at the plans for the Steepleton site and you realise that this is something special. Each apartment will be built around a courtyard garden and there will also be a wellbeing suite, a fitness studio, a café and guest suites for visitors. The planners at the Council have worked hard with the architects and the developer to ensure that the build quality will be superb. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the judges will recognise the merits of this planned development.”
