Town crier Alan Myatt is on the mend after missing Gloucester Day due to being taken to intensive care.
Mr Myatt has been in post since 1989 and since then has lent his booming voice to all sorts of public gatherings such as festivals, charity events and shop opening.
So his absence at Gloucester Day on September 6 would have been noted by many.
He sent a message to be relayed at a City Council meeting tonight (September 10) which explained why he was unable to attend.
He had been in intensive care at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
And he has thanked people for all the well wishes he has received and said he is out of intensive care and on the road to recover.
Council leader Jeremy Hilton (LD, Kingsholm and Wotton) made the announcement at the cabinet meeting at North Warehouse.
“Those of you who attend Gloucester Day will know that Alan Myatt wasn’t able to attend,” Cllr Hilton said.
“He was in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, was in intensive care at the time.
“He’s just sent a message through to us thanking people for the well wishes that he’s been receiving, but also to say that he’s now out of intensive care and he’s confident he’s on the road to recovery.
“So that’s particularly good news for our town crier.”
Cllr Hilton also thanked Cllr Stephanie Chambers (C, Quedgeley Fieldcourt) for relaying Mr Myatt’s message to him to be read out.
