Following the announcement of Uliving as the preferred bidder for the Pittville student village project, buy the University of Gloucestershire is announcing dates for a public consultation to present the scheme.
Key dates
Public consultation will run between Tuesday 12th and Tuesday 26th August and the University and Uliving will also be hosting three presentation and Q&A sessions in order to allow you to raise any specific queries relating to the development. These are scheduled for:

All events will take place at the Pittville Campus, Albert Road, Cheltenham, GL52 3JG. Meetings will take place on the 1st floor of the Laurie Lee Building.
In addition to these sessions the site will remain open from 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday from the 12th to the 26th August with members of the public welcome to visit during these hours to view exhibition boards and to leave feedback. Security staff will be present at all times.
The University and its development partner, have now completed the commercially sensitive stage of the public procurement process and are now in a position to share plans as part of a public consultation process.
The public / private partnership value your input and welcome views on the proposed scheme, which will they believe will help to shape a development of benefit to students, local residents and staff – enhancing the current site at Pittville.
The Pittville Campus was closed as a teaching facility in 2011. The student residences on the site have continued to house over 200 students. The development will include the complete refurbishment of the existing residences as well as an additional set of town houses and communal flats to take the total number of students living at the site to 794.
Within the re-development Uliving will provide new shared facilities including a refectory, gym, shop, café, multi-use games area, social learning spaces, faith room, bar and landscaped grounds and courtyards.
This exciting development is part of the University’s wider estates strategy with a commitment to providing the very best student experience. A key element in the University’s decision making process was the selection of a partner with an excellent track record in developing high quality and well-managed student accommodation.
The site will continue to be a car-free zone for students, under the existing University policy, and frequent bus services will be provided between campuses. Some university professional services staff will move to work at the site, ensuring direct access for students to pastoral and other support.
The construction will uphold the highest standards of sustainability to achieve the BREEAM Excellent standard. Lewis and Hickey Architects are designing the scheme and have an excellent track record in producing exceptional quality student accommodation which is sympathetic to both the needs of students, local residents and surrounding area.
Subject to planning permission work will start at Pittville in early in 2015. The site will be complete and ready for students by the Autumn of 2016.
Vice-Chancellor Stephen Marston explains: “The public consultation is an important part of our planning process. We will be sharing the designs and plans in detail, in particular with local residents. We will also explain how we’re going to manage both the building phase and the ongoing operation of the student village, in terms of security, transport, the environment and the general running of the site. This new student village will mean all of our first year students will have the opportunity to live in accommodation that is managed by the University. That is an important part of the whole experience we offer to students, and will enable us to match other Universities in guaranteeing accommodation for first year students in attractive, safe, well-managed locations. The Pittville development will be significant for the community, addressing a long-overdue need to redevelop and up-date the site. The development, in common with all of our campuses, will be an open and welcoming environment, built and managed to high standards.
