Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home says it has already taken in 68 cats during the first few months of 2026 — averaging around four every week.
The charity says the increase is placing huge pressure on its resources during what it describes as one of the busiest kitten seasons in its history.
Among the animals currently being cared for are several litters of kittens, including stray six-week-old kittens Walter and Jesse, kittens Frankie and Otis who are receiving treatment for eye infections, and two mother cats caring for newborn litters.
The rescue centre says rising veterinary costs and growing numbers of abandoned pets are creating significant financial strain.
Sam Herniman said the charity was concerned about the months ahead and urged animal lovers to donate to help provide veterinary care, food, shelter and rehoming support.
The charity is also encouraging owners to neuter their pets to help reduce unwanted litters and ease pressure on rescue services.
