A joint bid by city and county councils will bring extra funding for digital technology.
More services will go online thanks to funding for a new programme which aims to promote the successful use of digital technology. Twenty-seven councils have been awarded money from the Digital Experts programme, price run by the Local Government Association (LGA), order with one of the successful bids being a joint one from Gloucester City Council and Gloucestershire County Council.
The programme was set up to help councils develop their use of technology by learning from the digital tools and approaches which have already been successfully used elsewhere.
The funding will allow both councils to work together to explore ways for local people to engage with them using digital tools, view such as online services or mobile apps, and also how these could benefit joint working between the two councils. There are many successful examples of these tools being used nationwide, which both organisations are keen to learn from and develop for the benefit of their customers.
Cllr Ray Theodoulou, deputy leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said: “There’s already a lot of excellent work going on in both councils to look at how our online services can be improved. The funding will give us the opportunity to take this further and work towards providing more of the online services local people have told us they want.”
Cllr Dave Norman MBE, Gloucester City Council cabinet member for performance and resources, said: “Being able to learn from other councils and use tools they have already developed will give us a great head start. Digital technology develops so fast we need to be learning from others as much as possible.”
