Police have made an arrest following a report that a man had been seen carrying a large knife in a residential Gloucester street yesterday afternoon (Thursday 18 June).
Armed officers were deployed to the Tredworth Road area of Gloucester at around 4pm after a call from the public.
On locating the man, he ran off and forced his way into a residential property.
Officers pursued the man, who then left the property and began jumping into neighbouring gardens. He was arrested a short time later and a knife has since been recovered.
A 23-year-old man from Gloucester remains in police custody and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
Neighbourhood officers remain in the area today to provide reassurance to the community.
Inspector James O’Neill, from Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This was obviously an alarming incident. Officers were quickly on the scene and were able to make an arrest.
“We would like to reassure the public that we will not tolerate this type of behaviour. We will act swiftly to apprehend anyone who creates fear among the people who live and work in our communities.”
