Local residents in the Abbey, troche Hucclecote, viagra sale Longlevens, case Matson and Barnwood areas of Gloucester are being urged to stay vigilant following the arrests of two people on suspicion of burglary this morning.
Since the start of last week (26 October) there have been 11 house break-ins in those Gloucester communities, many of which involving offenders who forced or smashed windows to gain entry, often in the hours of darkness between 5pm and 10pm.
Thousands of pounds of electrical items, cosmetics, jewellery and cash were taken by the burglars during the offences.
A 25-year-old Gloucester woman and a 39-year-old Gloucester man were arrested in connection with the latest offence this morning after a resident reported she had discovered intruders had just left her home in Barnwood Avenue with cash and bank cards shortly before 6am.
A police search involving a dogs unit officer followed, before the arrests were made in Abbeymead Avenue at around 6.20am. The two remain in police custody at this time.
As part of Operation Switch, the local communities are being reminded of the increased risk of burglary after the clocks went back.
Harm Reduction Advisor Kim Mowday said: “This spate of offences is sadly a timely reminder of the heightened risk of burglary now the nights are drawing in.
“I would say to residents please make your house look occupied by keeping a light on at night or using light timer devices and set a burglar alarm before going out. Lock all of your doors and windows and lock away any tools or ladders which offenders could use to gain entry to your property. Invest in security lights which illuminate the outside of your home and make sure all side gates are locked and secure.”
Police officers and cadets are due to be in the Hucclecote and Barnwood area next week to deliver crime reduction advice to residents.
