There are calls for volunteers to help monitor speeds on roads near Gloucester “blighted” with drivers flouting the limit.

Hucclecote residents concerned with speeding traffic, vehicle noise and pollution in the area are being encouraged to attend their parish’s annual assembly next week.

Recent traffic speed and volume survey results for Hucclecote Road and Lobleys Drive will be shared at the meeting.

And Councillor Chas Townley says the parish council is keen to encourage residents to join a local speedwatch group.

“In response to local concerns, recent monitoring indicates that both Hucclecote Road and Lobleys Drive are blighted by one in seven vehicles travelling over the legal speed limit,” said Cllr Townley.

“We’re keen to encourage concerned local residents to join a parish Speedwatch group, to carry out regular speed checks on Hucclecote Road and Lobleys Drive. Working with the police we are able to access training and support so that drivers recorded at excessive speeds can be written to by the Police.”

“In addition we are also seeking to gauge support for the installation of community speed cameras that record the licence number of speeding vehicles”

Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire Nick Evans will be present as well as local police officers to answer any questions from residents. Along with new elected county councillor Ben Evans (LD).

A report on the work of the parish council over the past year will also be presented.

“All residents are welcome to attend to voice their concerns and offer any views on possible solutions,” a parish council spokesperson said.

The annual parish assembly will be at Pineholt Village Hall, Bird Road, Hucclecote from 6.30pm to 7.30pm on May 19.
