Wow – what a week for news on the local music circuit!! There was much excitement when Gloucester Rugby announced that Jess Glynne will be popping down to Kingsholm to play a summer show on 18th June. I saw Jess play at a small venue in Banbury at the start of her career just as “Rather Be” was topping the charts and I have to say that she’s quite the performer. I’m sure that anyone going won’t be disappointed – so if you haven’t got your ticket yet (and why wouldn’t you have?!) make sure you don’t miss out!! They’re on sale here!

Gloucester Guildhall absolutely made my day by announcing that one of my favourite 90’s bands are set to make their first ever appearance in Gloucester. Kula Shaker will be gracing the Guildhall stage on Friday 13th May and is a MUST for anyone who remembers hits such as Tattva, seek Hey Dude or Govinda. Tickets are on sale now and available here.
Just over the border in Herefordshire, the wonderful Nozstock Festival this week announced their lineup – and it’s an absolute banger!! Amongst the standout acts are Imelda May, The Skints, Goldie, Jaguar Skills and Jurrasic 5. There is an absolute wealth of talent on the bill with many rising stars and this really is a family festival so there’s something for everyone. Tickets are on sale and available here.
I’m delighted to say I’ll be heading to Bearded Theory in May. Killing Joke fronted by Cheltenham’s own Jaz Coleman are on the bill so I’m very much looking forward to reviewing them and many other bands that weekend. I’ll be doing a pre-festival piece nearer the time and a full review afterwards.
Also, look out in the next couple of weeks for my “ones to watch” guide. I’m going to be taking a look at the next generation of emerging acts to look out for as the festival season approaches and where you can expect to see them play.
Gig Of The Week

Many of you won’t have heard of Megan Timms – and it’s time you put that right. I was introduced to this amazingly talented young lady around 18 months ago. I’d been told by her father about how good she was but that she lacked confidence and needed some encouragement. You never know what to expect in situations like this, but I went to listen to her with an open mind. I was quite simply left dumbfounded. Yes, I could see how nervous she was but the ability she showed that night in Yates’ open mic session in Cheltenham was something else. Since then she’s continued to play sporadically at similar nights and made appearances at Wychwood, Rovin Fest and other festivals but has been quiet on circuit for a while. However, she’s digging deep and pulling on the confidence that she gained early last year and this Monday (11th April) will play at Cheltenham’s Bath Tavern at 9pm. Entry is free and I really urge you to go down and lend your support. You want a reason why? Take a listen to this…

Song Of The Week

I’ve already featured this artist on “Song Of The Week” in the early days of my column, and this week she released a live video that completely took my breath away – so I just had to feature her again. There seems to be no height at which the bar that Emi McDade can set that’s too high, and in the session video to the magical “Skeletons” we are taken to every spectrum of the range of human emotions possible. It really is stunningly beautiful – so settle back and enjoy the beauty, power and majesty of Emi McDade:
