Gloucestershire County Council has expressed solidarity with the Jewish community following an incident at a synagogue in Crumpsall, Manchester.
Two people have died and three others have been seriously injured in an attack outside a synagogue this morning.
The man suspected of carrying out the attack has been shot by police – and is believed to be dead.
A bomb disposal unit is at the scene.
Leader of Gloucestershire County Council, Lisa Spivey said the authority was “deeply saddened” by the events and emphasised its stance against all forms of hate and discrimination.
She said: “Our thoughts are with the affected community and with everyone who feels concerned or unsettled by these events.
We remain committed to ensuring Gloucestershire is a place where everyone feels safe, respected, and included. Let’s continue to stand together against hate and work for a community built on compassion and respect.”
It happened on Yom Kippur – a day for fasting, praying and atonement.
The King says his thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.
