Cotswold District Council has confirmed that an election to fill the vacancy in the Blockley ward will take place on Thursday 24 September 2026, following the resignation of Councillor Clare Turner.   

Cllr Turner has decided to resign as a councillor following new work commitments, after representing residents on the Council for over three years.

Jane Portman, chief executive officer at Cotswold District Council, said: “I would like to thank Cllr Turner for her commitment to representing the residents of Blockley and for the contribution she has made during her time as a councillor. We wish her all the very best for the future.

“Local democracy relies on residents having the opportunity to make their voices heard. I would encourage everyone in Blockley ward to make sure they are registered to vote and to take part in the by-election. Please also ensure you have the necessary identification where required.”

Notice of Election: Wednesday 19 August 2026

Nomination papers: Submit by hand to Council Offices, Trinity Road, GL7 1PX between 10am and 4pm from Wednesday 19 August

Deadline for nominations: 4pm, Thursday 27 August 2026

Publication of candidates: No later than 4pm, Friday 28 August 2026

Register to vote: By Tuesday 8 September 2026

Postal vote applications: By 5pm, Wednesday 9 September 2026

Proxy vote and voter authority certificate applications: By 5pm, Wednesday 16 September 2026

Election day: Thursday 24 September
