A dated footbridge linking Regent Street and Cavendish House is set to be demolished after Cheltenham Borough Council gave the green light to redevelopment plans.
The 1980s bridge, described as having “no architectural or planning merit,” will be removed to make way for a new 2,500 sq ft first-floor restaurant with a balcony overlooking the town centre.
Bosses at Japanese restaurant Kibou, which sits beneath the bridge, have raised concerns about disruption during the works but acknowledged the scheme could bring long-term benefits.
The Bridge Café, housed within the walkway for 16 years, will be relocated inside Regent Arcade.
Regent Arcade said the new restaurant would be “iconic” and deliver a “positive boost” for businesses.
