Forest of Dean District Council is helping landlords comply with legislation by offering a number of free smoke detectors for use in private lettings.
From 1st October 2015, check it will be compulsory for all new private lettings to have smoke detectors fitted on every floor of their properties, viagra 100mg and carbon monoxide detectors where there is solid fuel heating, cure in line with the Energy Act 2015.
Landlords who wish to take advantage of the free smoke alarm offer should contact Private Sector Housing on 01594 812424 to make arrangements for their collection.
Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are also available as a one off from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS), at Gloucester South Community Fire Station, Shepherd Road, Gloucester GL2 5EL and Cheltenham East Community Fire Station, Keynsham Road, Cheltenham GL53 7PY.
Prior to obtaining free detectors from the District Council or Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, landlords will need to provide a postcode for each property as well as a name and a signature for each application.
Houses in multiple occupation and registered social landlords are exempt from this free offer.
The Fire Service can also provide information packs for vulnerable residents and will offer free Home Fire Safety Visits (HFSV) to tenants on request.
Cllr Carole Allaway-Martin, Cabinet Member for Housing and Wellbeing said: “We are pleased to supply a limited stock of free smoke alarms to private landlords in our district to encourage them to meet their fire safety requirements under legislation. By supplying the alarms we are not only helping the landlords, but are also improving the safety conditions in rented properties for tenants.”
