Gloucester Cathedral’s Youth Choir numbers swelled impressively as twelve new members were admitted at Choral Evensong yesterday.
Founded in 1999 the choir is made up of talented young singers in School Years 10 to 13, from schools and colleges all around Gloucestershire and is conducted by Assistant Director of Music, Jonathan Hope, who said: “I’m delighted that the Cathedral Youth Choir has grown so impressively in number over this summer.”
“It is an integral and popular asset to the Cathedral, and (alongside the other Cathedral choirs) puts the Cathedral’s vision of being ‘in tune with heaven and in touch with daily life’ at the forefront. These talented young teenagers gain an enormous amount of experience, not just in musical matters, but also in teamwork and other important life skills.”
Post-Covid, music at Gloucester Cathedral is back – we continue to provide a singing opportunity for anyone of any gender from the age of six upwards. Do contact us if you want to get involved!”
