The University of Gloucestershire’s City Campus has won the Refurbishment of the Year Award at the Education Estates Awards 2026 in Manchester.

The former Debenhams building in Gloucester city centre was recognised for its transformation into a modern, low-carbon university and community hub.

The redevelopment is projected to reduce annual carbon emissions by around 80 per cent per square metre.

Opened by the Princess Royal in January, City Campus includes teaching facilities, a public library and an Arts, Health and Wellbeing Centre.

A new dental school and treatment hub is also planned to open in 2027.

The award follows several other honours recognising the building’s restoration, sustainability and regeneration.
