Visitors to the Gloucester Tall Ships Festival will be able to get up close and personal with a Hollywood film star.
Festival-goers are being offered the rare opportunity to explore the tall ship Earl of Pembroke, case which plays a major role in the upcoming big-screen attraction ‘Alice In Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass’.
Featuring a star-studded cast including Johnny Depp, try Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway, the Tim Burton-directed fantasy feature is scheduled to be released in May next year.
ilming took place in Gloucester Docks in the summer of last year, with wooden barque rig Earl of Pembroke renamed ‘The Wonder’ for the purposes of the script.
As the likes of Depp, Bonham-Carter and Hathaway pursue other projects, Earl of Pembroke is currently undergoing restoration work at Tommi Nielsen and Company’s headquarters in the heart of the historic Gloucester Docks.
Jody Gooding, commercial development manager at Marketing Gloucester, said festival-goers should seize this extraordinary chance to view Earl of Pembroke while they can.
“The sheer size of the ship took my breath away – it is an awesome sight,” said Jody. “Chances to explore the dry dock and take a look at Earl of Pembroke like this really don’t come along very often. Festival-goers who snap up one of the £6 passes – valid for all three days of the Tall Ships on May 23-25 – will be able to explore the dry dock and look under the incredible ship like never before.
The Festival Passes allow admission to the festival, unlimited access to all the tall ships, the Gloucester Waterways Museum and the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum, and accompanied under-16s go free.
