Local homebuilder Barratt Homes Bristol has kicked off its new partnership with Gloucester-based charity the James Hopkins Trust, raising more than £13,000 through a sponsored walk.

The walk marked the launch of a 12-month fundraising campaign after Barratt Bristol announced the James Hopkins Trust as its Charity of the Year for 2025/26.

A team of 26 employees swapped their hard hats for hiking boots, taking on the 26-mile route to support young children with life-threating conditions, across Gloucestershire. Their efforts raised £6,718, which was then match funded by Barratt Redrow, bringing the total to £13,436.

Founded in memory of James Hopkins in 1989, the James Hopkins Trust provides vital respite care for children under six with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. From its purpose-built Kites Corner centre in Barnwood, the charity supports around 100 children each year through nursing care, stay-and-play sessions, and home visits, giving families the chance to rest and recharge.

Ann Price, trust director at the James Hopkins Trust, said: “We’re so grateful to everyone at Barratt Homes Bristol for their incredible effort on the Tarka Trail walk. Raising more than £13,000 is a fantastic achievement and will make a real difference to the children and families we support. Their enthusiasm and commitment is truly inspiring, and we’re delighted to be by their side as their Charity of the Year.”

Rob Hart, managing director for Barratt Homes Bristol, added: “The James Hopkins Trust does extraordinary work for local families who are living through the most difficult of circumstances. We’re proud to be helping fund their services, and our team have done a fantastic job in raising over £6,000. We’re looking forward to continuing our fundraising throughout the year.”

It costs the James Hopkins Trust over £820,000 each year to provide its specialist care, and the charity relies almost entirely on donations.
