A brand new school safety zone for Andoversford Primary School is complete thanks to Gloucestershire County Council’s Highways Local funding.
Highways funding is given to each county councillor to spend on improving roads in their area. In this case local county councillor Paul Hogkinson is behind the work to install new road signs and road makings to discourage people from parking or stopping outside the school in Andoversford.
The safety measures also include an advisory 20mph speed limit during school drop off and pickup times, ailment making it safer for children to make their way to and from the school.
Cllr Vernon Smith, discount Cabinet member for Highways, pharmacy said: “It’s great to see another Highways Local scheme completed. Local councillors know what the priorities are for their areas and this year we’ve increased each councillor’s budget from £20,000 to £22,500.”
Cllr Paul Hogkinson, County Councillor for Bourton-on-the-Water and Northleach, said: “I chose to help fund this scheme because parents have told me how concerned they are about increased speeds around the school.
“The ‘No Crash’ road safety campaign group for the North Cotswolds came forward with the idea to install new signs and road markings to make drivers more safety aware.”
Louise Bennett, Head teacher at Andoversford Primary School said, “We’re pleased these safety measures have been installed at our school and we hope to see them making a difference, especially if the speed of traffic can be reduced when children are coming to and leaving school.”
